This 4,000 sq. ft. Annex home was thoughtfully restored from a former multi-unit property into a refined single-family residence for a young Toronto family of four. Designed by Partner Lindsay Mens with Associate Designer Haley Dermenjian, and completed in collaboration with POST Architecture and Baron Building Co, the 18-month renovation honours the home’s traditional exterior while introducing a lighter, more contemporary interior within.

This was the third home Lindsay had designed for the clients, giving the project a strong sense of familiarity and trust from the outset. On the main floor, spaces were opened up to create better flow for entertaining, anchored by a kitchen that balances dark lower cabinetry, putty-toned uppers and warm metal finishes.

Throughout the home, traditional detailing such as plaster crown moulding, wainscoting and herringbone floors reintroduces a sense of heritage, while a moody palette of black, cream, cognac and mauve brings a fresher, more modern edge. Upstairs, a light-filled vaulted primary suite and relaxed bedrooms for the couple’s daughters continue that same balance of softness and sophistication. The result is a home that feels polished yet easy, timeless yet youthful, and perfectly suited to its owners’ understated style.
