EDWARDIAN RESTORATION

Located in Toronto, this century-old Edwardian had been divided into apartments and stripped of much of its original character. The homeowners wanted to restore the warmth and architectural richness of the house while creating a more comfortable and functional home for modern family life.

Working alongside architect Richard Wengle, the team reimagined the 4,400-square-foot interior from the studs. The original entry and staircase were preserved, while nearly every other room was reconsidered to improve flow, introduce more natural light, and create stronger connections throughout the home.

With few original details remaining, surviving mouldings, baseboards, and trim became references for the new architectural elements. Widened openings, curved ceilings, custom millwork, and built-in cabinetry were designed to feel as though they had always belonged to the house.

Rich greens, merlot, teal, and warm brown bring depth to the principal rooms, while the kitchen and private spaces become progressively lighter and more relaxed. Scenic wallpapers, grasscloth, marble, brass, antiques, and custom furnishings give each room its own personality while maintaining a sense of continuity throughout.

The result is a layered and collected family home that honours its history without feeling bound by it.
